In October of 2020, I bought my first natural deodorant because I wanted to get away from using toxic products on my body. I had already started the search for new hair and body products and while I heard from so many friends that natural deodorant was a tough one to switch to, I was willing to try it out. I definitely did not think it would have taken me five months to find something that actually worked for me. And let me tell you, it’s been a weird and stinky five months! 🙂
In this post, I am going to walk you through each of the five products I tried and how my body reacted to each of them. At the end, we will reveal THE ONE – the one that finally worked for me. While you may want to skip through to the end, I urge you to read my reaction to each product and check out their price tags – I mean, I have done the work for you and could save you from experiencing the same things I did. I used each of these deodorants for about a month to be sure that I really gave them a decent chance before moving to the next option. So let’s get into it!
5. Schmidt’s Bergamot & Lime
Price – $6.99
After looking into natural deodorants and their clean scale rating, I wanted to start with something that I could find at my local Target. While it may seem weird that I picked the lime scented one, it was because it had the cleanest rating out of all of their scents.
So let’s start with the scent. It was not the worst smell but I mean, not sure I really want to smell like a key lime pie. Kind of weird. But other than that, it seemed to do the job. Now jump ahead four weeks to my dark under arms! Yikes! Like all the way dark pits! Nobody wants that so, it was time to give my under arms a break and move onto the next option.
4. Myro Refillable Big Dipper
Price – $20 (Refills are $15)
This next one was exciting for me because it comes in a really cute refillable container and I’m always down for less waste! First, let’s start with smell again. Big Dipper was the name of the scent and it was honestly my favorite scent and I loved that it didn’t feel as thick as the Schmidt’s one. I didn’t feel like my underarms were super clogged all the time. However, this thing didn’t last me more than a few hours! I was so stinky so fast! I tried to hold on since I liked the smell so much but in the end, it just wasn’t cutting it. At this point, I started sharing my experiences on Instagram and so many people reached out saying that I needed to use a detox alongside my natural deodorant. So time to introduce another product.
3. Coconut & Charcoal Detox Scrub
Price – $14.99
Not gonna lie, I’m not sure what I was expecting with this guy but he WAY exceeded my expectations. The first time I used it was right out of the shower and I applied to both of my underarms and then let it sit for about ten minutes before washing it off. I purposely didn’t put on any deodorant for a bit to see what would happen and I didn’t smell one bit! It was wild! I didn’t use it as often as I probably should have but it did help with the smell issue with the Myro. However, the Myro deodorant still wasn’t cutting it so it was time to look for another option.
2. Just Ingredients Coconut Vanilla
Price – $12.99 ($18.23 with shipping)
If you are familiar with the clean eating and natural product space on Instagram then this name shouldn’t be something new. I have been following Just Ingredients for quite a while, so I decided to try out a deodorant created by the queen herself. I thought coconut vanilla would be a good scent to try out and I was right. The smell was not very overwhelming but just enough to cover any stink.
However, this thing was THICK! Like I thought the Schmidt’s was thick but this made my pits feel like they were going to break out big time. The deodorant did a good job of masking my stink and it lasted pretty much all day, but when it wore off it REALLY wore off. I was even stinkier than I was before I put it on and the smell was all over my clothes. Not a good situation. So here we go again folks.
1. Primally Pure Lavender
Price – $14
Holy moly. Deodorant number four. I found Primally Pure through a friend and after being able to recognize and read all of the ingredients on the back of their products, I was really excited about trying their deodorant. I ordered the sample pack so that I could try out different scents but I immediately fell in love with the lavender. Maybe it’s because our laundry detergent is lavender scented or maybe it’s that the smell is from essential oils but it is the best!
Right from the start, this one blew all of the other deodorants out of the water. It was thick enough to cover my stink all day long but not too thick that I felt like my skin couldn’t breathe. And the best part is that when the scent wears off, I don’t smell horrible! I don’t even have to use the charcoal detox with this one too. I mean, this is what I always hoped to find. Even though it took me five months to find it, I am so glad I found Primally Pure.
Hopefully, if you’ve made it this far it’s because you don’t want to go through five months of terrorizing your own under arms. Since I have done all the work for you, there is no need to keep searching.
Primally Pure is the way to go, trust me on this one. Click the affiliate link below to shop their deodorants (*I did not become an affiliate until AFTER I uploaded this original post).
